Scripture: Proverbs 1:1-6 (NIV)
“The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight; for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young—let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.”
Reflection:
In these verses, Solomon is like a guide standing at the crossroads, beckoning us to follow the path of wisdom. His words are an invitation—not just to learn facts, but to grow in understanding, character, and sound judgment.
Wisdom in this context is practical. It’s not distant or abstract, but something that helps us live well. It’s about making decisions that lead to what is right, just, and fair. We all face choices every day, some small and others life-changing. Solomon reminds us that wisdom equips us for these moments, helping us see the bigger picture and act in ways that reflect integrity.
What strikes me is how accessible this wisdom is. Solomon doesn’t reserve it for the elite or the already knowledgeable. Lord, I ask for the gift of wisdom today. Give me a heart that is open to learning, a mind that seeks understanding, and a spirit that is eager to do what is right and just. Guide me on this path, and help me to live out your wisdom in every decision I make. Amen.
